RE: Carburetors

I believe Frank Smith is correct in his reply about Carmelo Forte's
carburetion problem - that his problem is in running 40 DCOE carbs optimized
for the 1300 on a 2000, and that he does not need 45 DCOEs. But there may be a
problem with Frank's suggestion that "you might get the jet specs for a 2000
type 40DCOE and use that as a start...." The 1300 GT Junior used the Weber 40
DCOE28, the 1600 GT Junior used Weber 40 DCOE27, (as did concurrent Giulia
Supers) while earlier Giulia Supers used 40 DCOE24 or 40 DCOE33. The 1750 used
the Weber 40 DCOE32. The difficulty with using the specs for the Webers used
on the 2000 as a baseline is that (according to the best information I have)
Alfa didn't use Webers on the 2000, except for some late RHD cars which had a
Weber "deinquinante" (anti-pollution) carb fitted while LHD cars continued
with "deinquinante" versions of the Dellortos and Solex. But since there is
just a 183 cc jump from the 1750 (1779 cc) to the 2000 (1962 cc) rather than
the 489 cc spread from the 1290 cc '1300' to the 1779 cc '1750', the jetting
specs for a 1750 40 DCOE32, plus some extrapolation, would probably be a
reasonable place to start.

One might assume that there is some logic in the suffix numbers- 24, 27, 28,
32, 33 - but the consensus of older and wiser minds than mine is that there is
no logic there.

Good luck, and best wishes to all-

John H.
