Re: V-6 engine ticking

I very much doubt it would be bad gas causing the
ticking. At most bad gas would cause pinging which
would get worse under a heavier load and and lower
rpm's. The only other problem bad gas could cause
would be clogging of fuel delivery components which
would at most cause hesitatation, cutting out or lack
of running altogether. A constant ticking that has
nothing to do with load or rpm's sounds definitely
like a problem with the engine itself. Probably in
the heads. I'd try to isolate the problem by finding
a long piece of hollow pipe and holding it against
different parts of the motor to hear where it's the
loudest. Try each head first.

Good luck,

I filled up at an ARCO last night for the first time
in years. Could it just be bad gas? (I am hoping,
but I have a feeling it's not.) The car
usually gets fed Chevron or Shell btw.
