re: 1.3 alfa 33
Do not think the smaller engined alfa less of a car because of it's lack of
cubic inches.
I own a 1992 1.3 33 with standard Dell'orto carburettors, it now has close
to 90,000 miles on the clock and the car is still a head turner and a hoot
to drive. It does all required of it very well, but it needs the typical
alfa attention. You need to change the engine and gearbox oil and power
steering fluid frequently, but these are very easy to do. You will need to
carry of the few circlips that keep the gearlever attached to the box
because they have a habit of going awol, leaving you stuck in gear. The
crunchy second synchro is now legendary, and changing sparkplugs requires
patience and calm that will make you a Zen master.
The 1.3 can cruise distances with comfort and ease, and with very good
m.p.g. I find it is thirstier than other cars in heavy traffic however, and
it has a much wider turning circle and the windscreen demister is not up to
much, and replacing the brake discs and pads will very likely be necessary
as they don't give much bite after even a few year's use.
However, it is very comfortable over uneven roads, better even than other
modern cars, and it holds the road very well, and top quality tyres further
improve grip.
Plenty torque and the flat four howl are grin inducing, and all this for
very little cash.
Cheers,
J.
