$2003 Challenge.
Most of you are aware of the Grassroots Motorsports $2002 challenge car that we have a team working on here in Detroit. (progress is steady by the way, should have a month of very cold driving time before the event...)
I was wondering what would be more interesting to Alfa folk, another knock down drag out, try to win it all car; or a car that would be both legal and competitive at most local autocrosses? Mind you, with current rules, if we managed to find a cheap, but solid GTV or TI, we could still add a turbo and the car would be legal in Street Mod.
If you don't know about our project, we are doing a 78 Spider where we are turbocharging it. The suspension is fully Ward & Deane, except for the panhard rod (Roy O, can you please e-mail me? I lost your e-mail and want to thank you on our entry form). Alfa Bill and AROO (Joe Cantrell) donated the bushings, and Jim Steck REALLY help us out on the engine. Who better than Bonnies engine man to help with a low budget turbo Alfa?! The turbo is from a Chrysler, which isn't the best in the world, but since they go cheap, its only $20 against our budget.
Its possible to do it again, or we can do a sub $2000 IT racer (w/o cage) or street prepared autocrosser.
What do you think? To be clear, I'm not saying that we WILL do this, just thinking about it already.
