RE: Alfa History, Enzo Ferrari...

Alfisti,

I am not new to the Italian car world but I am fairly
new to the world of Alfa Romeo owners. In particular
I am trying to learn more about Alfa's glorious
history. Does anyone have some suggestions on a good
comprehensive "primer" on both Alfa's manufacturing
and racing history?

In a recent post Otto Schug brought to light a very
interesting point in that Enzo Ferrari was turned down
by Fiat for employment and then went on to Alfa Romeo
(or was it ALPHA at that time?) and of course later we
all know the rest.

Another brilliant Italian automotive figure, Vittorio
Jano, came up through the ranks at Alfa as well. He
gained notoriety at Alfa for his masterful engine
designs. Later he went on to Lancia and designed the
world's first massed produced V-6 engine as fitted in
the Lancia Aurelia. This car is forefather of the
GTV6 and 75 in as much as it had the same
configuration of the V6 up front and transaxle in the
rear.

The Italian and entire automotive world owes so much
to Alfa Romeo. I wonder how many of the newer Ferrari
owners appreciate this fact?

Ciao,
