Re:GTV6 vs 911

I have to comment in defense of the 911. The 911 is really not the great
automotive Satan that people make it out to be. The interior may be a nod
to function over form, but having owned a Milano, I can't criticize the
ergonomics of too many cars out there. Having to shift into an even
numbered gear to change the CD was a nuisance, and the Porsche's climate
controls being between the seats is no worse than having the window controls
half on the ceiling and at the terribly awkward spot between the front seats
as the Milano has. The GTV6 interior is not the model of ergonomic
perfection either.

The Porsche makes a lot of power in the back, but there's a lot of rubber
under the engine to break free. I see a lot of people driving 911s year
round in Colorado. If they were that tail-happy in normal driving, they
would be a death-trap on ice. I would feel a lot safer in a 911 on
inclement roads than in my rear wheel drive, little weight in the back 71
GTV.

The 911 and the GTV6 are different cars built for different purposes. They
were also priced accordingly. It would be a lot more appropriate to compare
the GTV6 to a transaxle Porsche. One of my favorite automotive quotes is
"You can't turn a pig into a racehorse, but with enough money you can make a
damned fast pig". Seeing those pigs still doing quite well in racing
(modern and vintage) and on the street makes a strong argument in their
favor.

As John H puts it, YMMV.
