Trunk Spring repair

The trunk spring on my '86 Spider has sprung loose.  Does anyone have
knowledge or ideas on how to reset the spring bar in the bracket?  I can't see
how to do it without climbing into the trunk & lowering the lid.  Not an
appealing idea since I would be on the 6 O'clock news for locking myself in.
