refinishing steering wheel

Hi all,
  Just thought I would put in my .02 worth.
First tape off all metal.
Strip wood with a good quality stripper.
Sand with a #320 opencoat sandpaper until smooth.

Stain with desired color, maroon, tan ect., for depth.
Apply 1 coat of catalyzed varnish, let dry. (approx. one half to one hour
depending on temperature)
Apply 1 more coat of catalyzed varnish, let dry.
Sand with #600 wet/dry sandpaper.
Apply 1 final coat of catalyzed varnish.

All finishes should be applied with quality spray equipment.

I own my own furniture refinishing business.  I have been refinishing
antique and new furniture as well as a number of "strange" items for 35
years now.
