I thought so, too.  An unreliable source once told me that it was a
semi-common feature on older race cars.  Not intuitive to me why this would
work, though.  Maybe a significant difference in the forces on the
wheel/nuts between acceleration and braking...?  (I'll step aside and let
the engineers take over now.)
