re: Alfetta dipstick(s)

In 3086 and 3090 Matt Danning asked "I'm looking for the dimensions of an
alfetta dipstick. I need total length from tip to seat, and distance from tip
to 'add', and from 'add' to 'full'."

There are two different Alfetta dipsticks and dipstick tubes (and blocks and
sumps), which can be very convenient OR very inconvenient for people mixing
115 and 116 engine blocks and pans, or even 116 blocks and pans; one digester
had the engine in his car before he found there was no place for a dipstick.
It can also lay a serious trap for pure Alfetta mixers, as the dipsticks are
identical above the seat but one has the "min" mark about five-sixteenths of
an inch above the "max" mark of the other; if you have the long stick in a
short-stick engine you could be happily running several quarts down. There is
also an appreciable difference between the min-to-max spread, which I cannot
explain.

The dipstick-in-sump combo (dipstick 11634.01040.01 in tube 11634.01041.01)
measures 1-1/8" tip to "min", 1-9/16" min to max, and 4-15/16" max to seat.

The dipstick-in-block combo (dipstick 11655.01040.00 in tube 11657.01041.00)
measures 1-5/16" tip to "min", 1-3/16" min to max, and 6-3/4" max to seat.

At least those are the ones in my parts cars, a '76 (in pan) and a '78 (in
block). YMMV.

 Enjoy,

 John H.
