oil consumption

It is OK to consume oil every 5-600 miles if engine pressure
test revealed it is still within tolerable range.
Both of 164s when driven hard all the time can do that too.
Usually I need to add 1/2 quart every 800-1500 miles.
As long as there is no visible smoke coming out of tail pipe
and runs normal and passed smoke test, it is OK.
You don't need to rebuild an engine( yet ) just because it use
more oil.

I read the same thing where a reader complained to a car magazine that his
new car consumed a quart of oil every 1000 miles and the
dealer say there is nothing wrong ! The magazine's editor assured
him that it may not be perfect but nothing so wrong either.

A local, well reputed mechanic has said that this use is not abnormal.
