Alfetta Euro exhaust manifold and air pump rail - need ideas

Hey cats,
So I get a European exhaust manifold for my 79 Alfetta and Merrit Carden
in Newark, CA is about to machine the fittings for the Spica air pump rail.
He calls me to tell me #1 cylinder fitting is too close, by about 1 1/4
inch.
The exhaust run comes out and bends right away to go to the back and
combine with #4 cylinder and as a result, the existing fitting (what
purpose
on the Euro manifold?) won't line up with the rail. The flexible part of
the rail
won't allow for this much difference.
So I'm looking for ideas.
I thought to just push the end of the rail up in the air 45 deg. and put a
long curved tube. Merrit says the flexible part won't push up that high.
Maybe cutting the rail and shortening it at the end. Or cutting off the
last
flexible accordion and welding a direct fitting? Merrit is wondering about
the
way the tubes are inside the rail. Can they be cut and rewelded? Do they
need
to be brazed? (braised?)
He's going to go ahead and make the fittings and plug them up as I don't
need smog for 2 more years. In the meantime, I can try to come up with a
more
elegant solution. I have a spare rail I can cut and paste to try out.
So, I'd like to hear from the creative minds.
Thanks in advance.
