Subject: re: corvettes vs. alfa-hopefully nearing the end of this one

This one is for all of you guys who claim that Alfa can and will always
beat Corvettes....(except Sid, but a "57 Vette is an entirely different
animal)
I have been following this thread for a few days and have gotten sucked in.
You may or may not notice that all of the folks that have claimed thusfar
that the Corvette is a piece of s**t , have spoken in a hypothetical sense
<<take an Alfa and a Vette on a curvey road, or take the two on a twisty
track.....>>. All (I believe) of the folks that have said the Vette is
faster have seen it prove it's abilites at the track or autocross. I can
tell you from personal experience that EVERY time I have been to the track
(Lime Rock, Bridgehampton, NHIS-road course) Corvettes have consistently
walloped any and all Alfas The only exception is when there is a novice
driver in the cockpit. On any given day a stock Corvette will beat a stock
Alfa (as well as a street prepared Alfa) and a Street prepared Vette will
easily take a Street Prepared Alfa. I have driven a stock GTV-6 on the
track for several years and can tell you from experience, a Corvette of the
same vintage (and no doubt about it a new C5) will out handle it every
time. A street prepared GTV-6 (which I have also driven for several years)
lowered and with Shankle bars and springs certainly gets a lot closer in
the handling department, but will ultimately lose the horsepower battle
(read: Corvette wins). This isn't the 1960's. Todays cars can put the power
to the ground, and with today's tires it is a no brainer. Look at how
successful the Vipers are today. But alas, that is not why we love Alfas
I am not a Vette fan. I own three Alfas and love them all, so I am not
partial to Vettes. All that said, keep this in mind:
Yes, the Corvette will beat an Alfa. But, the Corvette and Alfa are
"classed" differently. Every sanctioning body will put the Corvette in a
higher (faster) class than an Alfa.
So, in the end, we are all really comparing apples to oranges..........
Oh well, it's fun writing passionate mindless babble anyway.
