Regarding Ken's query, Warren noted that although ripping car noises =
appeal to the emotions and cause heads to snap around as you go by, some =
of those heads belong to the men and women in blue who=20
write speeding tickets for a living, and that iIn this arena, perhaps the =
less attention you draw to yourself and your wheels, the better.
Sad to say, Warren's quite right, but equally sadly, perhaps, some of us =
let our hearts rule our heads to a greater extent than we should.! Which =
is why we have Alfas in the first place I suppose. We have a number of =
Alfas, some of which have good crackly exhausts which just beg for =
redlining past concrete walls with the driver's window down. Others have =
dead standard exhausts and they probably produce just as much power as the =
crackly ones but by golly they aren't as much fun.! Of course, fun should =
not be had when one is driving past a man in blue, or in a built-up area =
- - one has to have a sense of decorum and indeed responsibility in driving =
- - but when the circumstances are safe and right, you can't beat the =
aforesaid redlining past a wall with the window down. You need to have =
something to make worthwhile all those hours of evenings and weekends =
you've spent sweating under your Alfas. One of our cars goes like the =
clappers but it still has all its factory exhaust components in place - =
it's fast but it's boring - a muffler has got to go.! If that removal =
costs us a second of lap time on the track, then OK we'll put it back =
(performance is more important than sound) - but I sure hope it doesn't.!
Best regards,=20

78 Alfetta GT (non-orig, too noisy, even I don't like it)
82 Alfa Sud ti & Sprint (orig mufflers rusted, torpedos now, sound really =
sharp),
84 Alfa Sud ti (all original exh, very fast car, but too quiet).
