RE: Roebling Road -- Helmet question

Bill-
I would double check with the club holding the event to make sure they will
accept a "M" (motorcycle) rated helmet. Many clubs these days will reject
"M" helmets and require at least an SA-90 or 95 helmet. It would be a shame
to show up and find out that they won't let you use the one you brought.
Just to give some perspective- As mentioned, the "M" rating is for
motorcycle helmets. The SA is for automobiles. The two are essentially the
same except for one (major) thing. The SA helmets are tested with the
consideration of heat (fire). Motorcycle helmets do not need to stand up to
heat requirements. (There are other differences in the tests, but the heat
factor is the most critical) For the most part, most of us really do not
"require" (from our own safety perspective) an SA rated helmet. Most (you
know who your are) of us do not run exotic, highly flammable fuels in our
vehicles. Therefore, the risk (of fire) is much less in our street
vehicles. All of that said, it isn't always easy to convince the club
stewards that this is the case. I guess you could always print out some
info from Snell.org and bring it with you as a backup if you can't find an
SA and need one.
