Hi Robert,
If you slacken off the screws that hold down the latches, you'll find you
can adjust the latches a bit. I've never tried messing with those cables -
maybe an upholsterer / top installer (Caribou?) could tell you what they're
for. I seem to remember somebody on the digest a couple of days ago saying
that, in their experience, spiders always seemed to have one latch that was
tougher to latch than the other, so that you would have to latch the easy
one first, and then the tough one.
If it's possible, try leaving your car with the top up but unlatched. Maybe
that will remove some of the tension from the fabric / stretch it out a bit.
