Top speed 164 S
The shop manual specifies 23.03 mph in top gear for the S (25.62 mph for
the L) which is 6,382 rpm at 147 mph. This is the redline for the S. Peak
power is developed at 5,800 rpm (200 hp for the S, 183 for the L at 5,600
rpm).
The other speedo error factor which is difficult to allow for is tire
growth at high speeds. The centrifugal "force" causes the circumference of
the tire to grow as the speeds get very high, each tire is different in
this regard. Standard speedo testing probably wouldn't give you this
number, but the tachometer will show actual engine rpm which can be used to
calculate speedo error. However, tire growth actually represents real
circumference changes so the calculated speed from the tacho is probably
affected the other direction now that I think about it!!
Anyhoo, 147 seems eminently achievable with a 200 hp engine 500 rpm beyond
its peak power.
