My experience with the adjustable voltage regulators is that they are not
thermally stable, output climes with temp.  Set to 14v when cold and you
have over 17v when hot, not good for battery life.  How do you adjust
them when hot?  My solution is to wrap my hand and forearm in Kevlar hold
small screwdriver in my finger tips and pour a gallon of water down my
wrapped arm while it is against the exhaust manifold.  Only first degree
burns.
