the procedure to properly install the oil pump is
part of the reassembly procedure found in the 1992 ARDONA
spider motor build manual which is (or at least was) available
from Ed Geller, the AROC USA librarian, in photocopy form.

pump gear housing (three or four bolts to undo) then see if the
shaft turns freely.  If not, yes there's a problem.  If yes, then
try to reassemble the pump gear section but don't tighten
the bolts fully.  Spin the shaft a few times to align the gears,
then tighten fully and see if it's better.  You can repeat this several
times to find the "sweet spot" where the pump spins the easiest.
I think this is a good thing to do for any new oil pump.
Removing the pump gear housing also gives you a chance
to clean out any manufacturing "residue" before it hits your
new bearings.
