Just a data point for you Karl,

Mine broke 68,000 miles today and no perceivable drivetrain slack.  However, I
am beginning to notice that "clunk" in the front suspension while doing
low-speed parking lot maneuvers.  Must be the bushings wearing out.

Engine in this car seems very solid, pulling hard from parking-lot rpm's to
Boxster-beating rpm's while consuming no oil between the 5K mile oil changes.

So far I'm impressed.
