Fairly recently the topic of VVT was thrown around and if remember correctly 
(I may not have, so straighten me out, if needed) it was decided by 
acclamation that retrofitting VVT was a relatively simple thing.

The question to which I was hoping to see an answer was/is:

Why would anyone *want* to retrofit VVT? Does it do (or can it be made to 
do) anything of performance value?
