Subject: Burn injuries
Someone mentiones Jackie Stewart being burned in a F1 accident. I do
not recall this incident. Could you have meant the horrible injuries
suffered by Niki Lauda? Ian <<<<<<
I mentioned JS as an individual whose personal experience and personal
impetus led to improved safety for European drivers. Jackie was trapped
for the equivalent of forever in a container of fuel after a crash.
Because of this and because of the loss of his fellow racers he caused
change for the better. I never mentioned JS being burned or intended to
imply it. This horrifying event did not need flame to make the point.
Niki Lauda, of course, is a living example of what should never have been
allowed to happen.
