Oh I think so. Mazda has used this double rod system on their shifter since 
the first GLC FWD model which has to date back to 1980 or so I should 
think. The "twin trapezoidal" rear strut suspension was also introduced on 
the first fwd GLC, predecessor to the 323 which in turn was predecessor to 
the Protege.
