Niche Marketing -- auto's

>> This makes it even harder for other, higher-cost producers,
like FIAT to compete, and less likely the h-c producers will offer
lower-profit, niche cars.<<

FIAT is not a high cost manufacturer, and with total production
getting on for 4m units worldwide they are not that small. FIAT
were one of the first to go for platform sharing with the Tipo, much
of whose underneath is shared with the Lancia Dedra, Delta, Fiat
Tempra, Brava, Bravo,Maera, Coupe and the Alfa 145. 146, 155, 156,
Spider and GTV.

The 156 may be a high cost car compared to a Fiat Brava, but it is
not that much more expensive and the difference is well and truly
covered by the premium price they can charge. At least unlike VW, FIAT
have a large range of different 'images' covered with their range of =

platform sharing cars.

All the best
