Hi Jan,

Are you referring to the tapered-tip, shoulder-less screws, that are locked
in place by small nuts?  If so, these are used to balance the individual
barrels of a single carb.  I was told that these were added in later years
to help better tune the carbs for emissions. I can't verify that claim, but
I have used these adjustment screws and a Synchrometer to perfectly balance
my carbs.  Works great!
