Ian's mysterious stalling

Ian Evans wrote...

Today in stop and go traffic the car suddenly died...
 No missing sputtering etc.
Never did it before. Runs fine for another hour then suddenly dies
while driving in 4th at around 3000 rpm. I'm leaning towards
electrical problem in the ignition circuit, but if it's going to be
intermittent like this it'll be a bear to trace.

Jay Mackro has some very good advice. Unless I missed something there is
one other thing to wiggle.

Next time it quits, run, don't walk to the front of your car, lift the
hood, vigorously pull up and down the fuel cut-off thingy / switch
several times. Then try starting it again. (Ummm, yours does have one
doesn't it?).

Should you want to be really sophisticated about it, use your ohm meter
on each of the contacts under the switch before wiggling. (Turn off the
electricity first). I'm guessing you won't get a reading. Then after the
vigorous part see if you now get a reading. If this fixes it (for the
moment) I'd be inclined to remove, dismantle, and clean all contacts -
inside and out.
