Re: SOS and the spica system

To the owner of the 71 spider.

Relax, it will be ok!!!

The throttle on the dash board is exactially that, which means that it
won't do anthying that your right foot can't so its lack of function is
not of great concern.

Since your plugs are wet you are over feeding the engin with fuel. This
is quite easy to do on a spica system.

Hidden under the air filter on the intake side of the engine is a belt
driven mechanical fuel injection pump.

If you think about it the facts are quite amazing, timed multi port fuel
injection way back in 1971.

Now back to your problem!!!

The first step is always the hardest.

I believe that Mr. Eastwood said it best (I don't remember which dirt
harry movie). But the quote is that a man has to know his limitations.

With that in mind you may or may not want to attempt what I am about to
describe to you.

Get a copy of the spica book.

Verify the settings on you pump. Especially the cold start selonoid and
its associated plunger, Check that it isn't stuck.

Next verify the thermostatic actuator. to do this remove it from the car
and place the bulb end in boiling water and measure the protusion of the
piston (compare with the specification in the spica book)

Only after completing the above steps move on to the fuel cuttoff
selonoid. By turning this in or out you can set the fuel mixture. Before
changing the mixture first change the oil and the spark plugs and drive
the car several times.

Have fun

Paul Gill

Ps I spent most of sunday swapping out my injection pump on my 78 GTV.
