Knuckle Risers

I found an item that is listed in an old Performance Options Catalogue that 
sounds like it is supposed to improve handling in the 105 series cars.  It 
is called a Knuckle Riser.  There are ones listed for 13" and 14" 
suspensions.  Does anyone have any knowledge about these and if they would 
really improve handling on these old cars, and how they do so?  I have a '73 
GTV and would like to make it handle as best as is possible, especially for 
autocrossing.  I found someone who has one original knuckle riser for a 14" 
suspension that he wants to sell.  But before I buy it and have a machine 
shop make one for the other side, I want to know if they really do help.
