Too easily. The most critical parts of the pump are both cooled and 
lubricated by the gasoline, and the cooling is why the recirculating gasoline 
gets warmer faster when the tank is lower, leading to cavitation at the 
supply pump and starvation at the injection pump. The tank may not be 
literally empty but the person who runs on the last quarter tank on a hot day 
is far more likely to have an unlubricated and uncooled pump as well as a 
sporadically lean mixture at inopportune times. The last gallon is Russian 
roulette. Something for the Weber partisans to snicker about-
