engine weights

    I have a bet with a friend I'm hoping one of you knowledgeable types can
settle:  the bet is that a '72 2L alfa fully equipped (about 330#, right?),
AL block and all weighs more than a 2L 16v VW GTI similarly equipped. I love
Alfas, but time marches on says my friend.  Anybody know what one of the
latter mills weighs in at?
    Hopefully, someday Alfa will return to the US and Euro-envy will be a
