Torn seats: good band-aid fixes?

Can anyone suggest ways of fixing torn vinyl seats.
It's unlikely that I'll replace/reupholster the seats
in my 71 Spider anytime soon and I need suggestions
on how to stop the damage before it gets any worse.

Send responses off digest if you like; I'll post
a summary.

NB: the seats have torn. It's not a case of rotten
stitching.
