My '74 GTV carpeting is also one piece (black).  Visible edges are
bound, and there are plastic/rubber pads under both driver's and
passenger's feet.  I can't say for certain if it's original, but I know
it's at least 17 years old (that's how far back my records and stories
on the car go).
