Has the question regarding the suspension limiting straps been resolved?

I just replaced a set of badly deteriorated straps on my '84 spider (along 
with rear suspension bushings, driveshaft central carrier, flexible coupling, 
oil seals, and clutch - a big job, but what a difference!).  I installed the 
straps nylon mesh-side-out.  I reasoned that the retention of water in the 
nylon would eventually cause it to deteriorate; it would certainly dry more 
effectively on the outside, while the plastic on the inside would remain 
impervious to moisture.

Does anyone out there know for sure?
