Milano Stereo Upgrade Questions

I am thinking of upgrading from the original radio in my 87 Milano Gold
to something with a little more kick to it.  Has anything upgraded and
have any words of wisdom they could pass on before I tackle this?  I'm
specifically looking to add a subwoofer to the car, but am perplexed
about where I would place it, since the fuel cell is between the trunk
and rear seat.
