Spider generator

I just replaced my engine with a fresh one from APE, and after I got it
running and all I discovered that the generator light came on and off
intermittently. I checked the power cord from the battery, and yes it was
loose, problem solved. Smart as I am I took my trusted 1/4 inch Snap-On
ratchet with a 10mm socket, and of course I touched ground!!! Oops, now the
car will start, but I don't have a generator light nor a fuel pressure or an
oil pressure warning light, did I just burn off a perfectly good generator,
or are there maybe some other reason. The lights worke before my goof up.
