"At the end of a hard days work in January 1931, Felice Bianchi
Anderloni and his faithful draughtsman Seregni stepped back from the drawing
board to get an overall view of what they had just finished. They were
looking at the first sketch of the 'Flying Star'.
There it was, held to the board with thumbtacks, in all its edgy
strength, with the pungent yet harmonious disporportion between the long high
bonnet and the short, wedge shaped tail. This was the concept which fathered
one of the most sensational automotive creations of all time, the car which
can be said to have put Carrozeria Touring on the map."
Sheesh, pat your self on the back will ya!
Earlier, in late1929 (nice timing!) a precursor with the same name was
designed and built on several O.M. 665 Mille Miglia chassis. The first
four or five were on Isotta Frachini 8 A Corto, later a more 'refined' design
was placed on an 8 B chassis.
What is considered to be the most elegant version of all..."It is clear from
this picture how the 'Flying Star' formula reached the highest point of its
expressive potential: all the later variations in the proportions were to
produce inferior results"... , was presented in September 1931 at the
Concours d'elegance at the Villa d'Este on the supercharged Alfa Romeo 1750
GS. It is a magnificently beautiful and striking design. La Signora
Josette Pozzo of Genoa was one luck lady!!
Touring even did several versions of the Flying Star on Fiat 522C chassis (
dumpy little bugger - but still a good looking Fiat!).
