164 temp, Paul Frere, and Beth

Hello all,

I detect perhaps, a slight difference of opinion in two of the digest's 164
experts; I recall Brad Anesi at one point suggesting that the only way a 164
will run at a steady 190 deg. is the installation of a larger capacity
radiator.  My own experience suggests he may be right; while I cannot rule
out mechanical malfunction in my system, I notice that during Texas summers
(90 deg -110 deg) even if I am on the highway doing 70Mph the needle will
usually be past the 235 mark, this makes me very nervous - doesn't seem to
have any ill effects on the car.  I have not owned the car since new, but
for the last few years I have changed the coolant regularly and checked the
functioning of the cooling fan.  Bernie Z, who I know has owned his since
new, I believe has had similar experiences.  I had resigned myself to
getting a higher capacity radiator ($500!!), but Bill Harkell's assertion
gives me pause.

Hertzman's note on Frere reminded me of a long lost poster, I had on my wall
as a child, of Frere and Gendebien's Testa Rossa (Testarossa ?), I agree
that while one may not approve of Frere's opinions he certainly has the
perspective to back them up.  Having lived in various parts of Europe for
the past few years I can certainly understand his views.  
John never ceases to impress me with his command of English grammar, while
it is a second language to me I seem to have forgotten what little grammar I
may have known when I arrived in the States about fifteen years ago.

Beth, been off-digest for a while but in my limited recollection: I know we
have a female digester that owns a Duetto and two others that we haven't
heard from in a while that own transaxle cars.  Would be a shape if you
decided to boycott; I don't think we have had a female GTjr owner on before.
