Spider door locks

Having habitual problems with my door locks on a 94 Spider.  They keep 
breaking, and I keep replacing them.  My mechanic suggested simply replacing 
the driver's side  cylinder only, so that I can at least lock/unlock one 
door. This is getting ridiculous and very costly.  Can anyone suggest an 
alternative?
