Greetings Folks,
Could anybody tell me if they've experienced a
problem on the 2.0 16V TS engines as used in the 164 & 155. My '97
155 is currently emitting a loud rattle upon deceleration. the dealer
tells me the unit that controls the advance of the inlet cam is
faulty. The car only has 34,000 miles on it and has full Alfa Romeo
dealer history. I asked about Warranty and they were vague. However
the mechanic told me its common on all Fiat / Alfa engines with this
system. I have seen Fiat Barchettas with this symtom and they were
eventually covered by Warranty , after a publicised UK TV programme
publicised the fault. I was also told today that the pulleys on my
car may have been incorrect parts fitted at the Factory !!. This is
the reason why it eats fan belts between services. Can anybody out
there shed any light on any / all of this. My car is under the knife
tomorrow morning here in Dublin, which by the way has just seen 50
mph wind, snow and sweltering sun , all in the last hour !
Ben Cosgrave,
Dublin, Ireland.
