O2 sensor

All this talk about o2 sensors has gotten me worried.  I am replacing
mine and ordered one from centerline which should arrive today.  It is
going on an 87 spider.  The salesman told me that it did not matter how
the wires were soldered together as long as colors were not
crossed.  Is that correct or do I risk frying the ecu? Any advice?
