Stalhwillei and Hazet make the best stud removal tools I have seen
other than thread specific tools. The stud remover installer is a
sprag clutch inside of a 1/2" drive socket. There are 4 common sizes
in metric, 6, 8, 10 ,12mm and a set will run you $140.00 from a tool
truck. If you check around some discount tools stores(Tool Shack) you
will find a Asian copy of the German tools for about $30.00 a set and
they work just fine.

I have always screwed the stud into the receiver until the correct
amount of thread is showing and the torque factor is applied by the
nut. I am sure that cylinder studs have a torque spec but do not know
of it.
