 Subject: Rollbar revisited

Thanks to all for their advice regarding a (race) rollbar for my Duetto.
As many of you suggested, I contacted AutoPower. However, they noted
that to install the bar, I need to remove my top. Is there some way
around this, or do I have to pray for no rain on the way to and from the
 track?

 Thanks,
 Robin

I know that the Duetto is shaped differently than the square tail, so what
follows may not apply.
The roll bar that Autopower sold me as a "race height" bar fits under
the top of my 82 Spider. The bar measures 34 inches from the mounting
location to the top. The top bow rivets had to be drilled out and replaced
with bolts to disassemble the top to put it up or down. The roll bar touches
the top when it is up and it takes 2 people and 15 minutes to put up or down.
As required by the AROC Competition Code, the roll bar is above the top of my
helmet with the bottom seat cushion of the stock seat removed. It is not 2
inches above my helmet as required by SCCA Solo I rules and by some other
track events. A bar 2 inches above the top of MY helmet would not fit under a
top. For reference, with no helmet and with the stock seats and if I sit up
straight, my head touches the top bow.
I plan to have my spider at Hallett for the National Convention time trials
on June 16th if anyone wants to see how the top works with the roll bar.
So, Robin, I suggest you buy the bar and see if you can make it work with
your top. Again, the Duetto may be different from my spider. As an
alternative, I recall seeing a spider at the Denver convention with a bike
rack on the rear bumper and the roll bar mounted to it for travel.
