Re: how the Digest works

While we're on this subject, there's something I've been wondering for quite
some time:

Instead of the current format, why isn't the Digest a standard Internet
Newsgroup (e.g. something like "rec.autos.makers.alfa")?  I've no idea what
it takes to implement this, but the advantages would be several, like
automatic thread handling.  Newsgroups can be moderated, as I understand it,
and that would become Mr. Welty's role, I suppose.

Please enlighten this humble Internet neophyte, off digest if appropriate.
