Addendum to Frank's post on how the digest works-

In AD7-544 Frank did a worthy job indeed of explaining how the digest's
individual-message, cumulative-messages bit works, but also-

Many participants send CC's of their digest postings to the author of
something which had precipitated their reply- the recipient can then post a
reply to the digest with a CC to the other participant. This ping-pong game
can sometimes cross the net several times in the period that it takes for the
digest to accumulate a single bulk package-

For many reasons (including my storage-and-retrieval system) I vastly prefer
the bulk package. When I reply to something in the bulk package I start with
"In AD 7-544 Frank writes - - ", but I may get a reply from him a minute
later, and my response then can only take the "Frank says--" form. This can
occasionally result in a string of several point-counterpoint messages even
when both parties are receiving the digest in the convenient (to them) bulk
mode.

This may involve delay on the dissemination of the first posting, but after
that a "CC"- enabled exchange of views can be every bit as rapid as in the
individual message mode. A fair number of participants seem to have tumbled to
this, and CC regularly.
