Braided brake lines
In AD V7 #522, Chris Piepers says (among other things)
"On mounting "braided steel lines" as Alan Lambert suggested . . .
I WOULD, IF ONLY I HAD THE MONEY!
These babies are expensive!"
Maybe this is true in the Netherlands where Chris lives, but here in
Southern California they are quite reasonable. Alfa Ricambi sells a
set for about $100. When I bought a set for my GTV I noticed the
packaging said "Earl's Performance Products." When I later called
Alsf Ricambi to order a set for my GTV6 they didn't have any. So I
looked Earl's up in the phone book. Sure enough, they are located on
Hawthorne Blvd in Lawndale (or might be Hawthorne), southwest of Los
Angeles, and about 10 minutes from where I work. I took my old set of
rubber hoses and went over there, and while I waited they made up a
new set of braided hoses using the rubber hoses as a template for
length, connector thread sizes, etc. Cost about $50.
I don't know if the Lawndale Earl's is the only one, I kind of think
they might be a chain.
Incidentally the Earl's in Lawndale is an interesting
combination...half speed shop, and the other half is surplus
electrical/industrial equipment...quite an interesting selection.
