"Nothing" as in No Spark, or Nothing Wrong?
I do get sparks from idle up to about 2000 (or sometimes 4000) rpm where they
completely dissapear.

Behaviour is exactly the same with either or both coils connected. That's why
I'm so puzzled. OK, a coil can break. So can two coils. But not both at the same
time (they both worked fine a few months back) and in exactly the same way, or
can they?

No, I trusted in the timing lamp to give me visible signs of sparks.
