Fusi

In AD7-513 Kevin asks for "more information on the Fusi book" that is often
mentioned. What is the exact title of the book, and when was it publisshed?"

Luigi Fusi, "Alfaromeo: Tutte le vetture dal 1910/All Cars from 1910",
emmetigrafica editrice, Milano 1978 is my latest copy, labeled "third edition"
but I believe simply a second printing of the second edition, October 1977,
which was a revision of a 1965 first edition, "Le Vetture Alfa Romeo Dal
1910", Editrice Adiemme, Milano. Both are out of print, one must be patient in
locating a used copy.

Luigi Fusi was employed as a draftsman at Alfa Romeo at the age of fourteen,
and remained as reliable subordinate to each of the great engineers in turn
until his retirement in 1954, participating in the design of all of the great
prewar cars and preserving many engineering drawings which others might have
discarded. On retirement he was asked to organize and preserve this mound of
priceless records, accurately redrawing any drawings which were in bad
condition. Later he was asked to work with a small group of other aging
craftsmen in restoring (and in certain cases recreating) the cars which now
form the company museum.

In both editions each car is represented with a short essay, a page of data,
and photographs and/or drawings. At the end there are tables of quantities
produced and engine and chassis numbers for each year of each model.
Inevitably there are some errors, but it is a marvelous and monumental basic
record.

Luigi Fusi was also instrumental in producing several other Alfa books, the
most notable of which are two on the first and second of Alfa's great
engineers, "Le Alfa di Merosi e di Romeo", Editrice Dimensione S, Milano,
l985, and "Le Alfa di Vittorio Jano" Edizioni di Autocritica, Roma, 1982.
