Re: 105 coupe identification

In AD7-505 Ben Dixon asks again for identification of a 105 coupe,
Chassis# AR1290977 and Engine# AR0053021893.

Chassis# AR1290977 is within the range 1290656 to 12901483 for the 1968 1300
Junior CKD. Fusi gives an irrational engine number range from 530.16544 to
530.14572 for all 1968 1300 Junior GTs and Spiders; for 1969 the range is from
530.14573 to 530.30186. For 1967 the range is 530.03701 to 530.16544.

I have run into such an anomaly before, which was amenable to rationalization
if one assumed an error in one digit. In this case it MIGHT be that 1967
should have been 530.03701 to 530.06544, 1968 530.06544 to 530.14572, and 1969
530.14573 to 530.30186, which would make the engine a 1969. Or it MIGHT be
that 1967 should have been 530.03701 to 530.16544, 1968 530.16544 to
530.24572, and 1969 530.24573 to 530.30186, which would put the engine number
in the 1968 1300 Junior range

Neither guess fits the numbers given for numbers of cars produced, and the
other source I might use for cross-checking is unavailable, so all one can say
about the engine numbers is that something is wrong. The chassis numbers would
make it a 1968 South African car 1300 Junior, and the engine number would also
make it a 1300 Junior of less certain date.
