75 Twinspark

Yesterday I had the misfortune to bugger up a big end bearing on my
engine, No.4 which is the most susceptible as its furthest from the oil
supply. I had a real white-knuckle tow back to the workshop as my sister
had never towed anything before, and 70 miles was a long way.
Today I took the engine out to investigate the source of the scraping
noise which it had started to make and found the shell in flakes all
over the sump. The shell had been going round with the crank and the con
rod is showing signs of wear. The crank is also scuffed so I need to
know if they can be ground. If I can get it ground is it a good idea to
get all the big ends ground to the same size, or just the bad one?
While the engine is in bits I thought I'd get new rings at least for it.
Can I do it the easy way and leave the head on, fitting the pistons from
the bottom?
BTW I found the aluminium bullets from the gremlin who shot it to death,
three of them, but only two holes! Are there holes other than in the
crankshaft where these nasty things go?
I'll try to get a whole engine tomorrow and rebuild this one carefully,
which might take a week or two. Any UK people have a lead on where to
get one?
When it goes back together I'm going to re-route the exhaust through the
front because I'm sick of taking it off.
