Giant Conglomerates

In the European Car that just came out on the newstand they have an
artical about the British car show. They state that the biggest
independent British car manufacturer is TVR which sells about 2,000 cars
per year. All of the more popular makes are foriegn owned. The good news
is that there were 30 independant British car manufacturers at the show.
All in all they make come pretty interesting cars.

In the states we're lucky if there are half a dozen independent car
manufacturers ( outside of the Big Three, or is it he Big
Two-and-a-Half). All of the federal safety and emission regulations have
pretty much done away with any small manufacturer. They just can't
afford to meet all the regulations. As a result we don't have much in
the way of nitch market cars like the British. Most of the cars here
seem to be punched out of three or four cookie cutters. We need to get
makes like Alfa back here before Americians forget that cars can be
exciting.
